As a pediatrician, the most fulfilling years of my career have been those spent working with preterm infants. This sensitive group of patients influenced my decision to become a subspecialist in neonatology. Caring for a newborn in the earliest days of life forms a special bond between doctor, parents, and child, as we face all the challenges together from the very beginning. One of my major areas of interest within neonatology is ultrasound diagnostics—screening for birth injuries or congenital brain malformations, congenital heart defects, and kidney anomalies.
