The first allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny and itchy nose or cough can occur during flowering and after exposure to dust. In addition to the above, symptoms of hypersensitivity to certain allergens can also appear in the form of different sensations in the oral cavity, digestive problems, and skin changes.
Unpleasant symptoms impair the quality of life, which is exactly why parents seek the help of a pediatric allergist.
Pediatric allergistcheck-up
Allergological treatment of our small patients begins with a thorough medical history and clinical examination, and at the doctor’s discretion, continues with allergy testing, lung function tests and blood sampling.
At what age shoulda child be referred toan allergy specialist?
It is often heard that a child should not be referred for allergy testing until the age of three, but this is a wrong and outdated attitude. In infancy, allergy tests are most often performed for foods such as eggs, cow’s milk, wheat flour, soy, or for dust mites and pet allergens. If there is a suspicion that an infant has an allergy to the foods it consumes, it can be proven with a skin test and/or a blood test.

Skin prick testfor children
This test measures the skin reaction – urticaria that occurs at the site of the sting, and is carried out by dripping allergens onto the skin in precisely determined intervals. After dripping, the allergens are pressed into the skin with a plastic lancet.
The skin prick test is very fast. The results will be available only about 20 minutes after the end of the test.
Children tolerate the skin prick test well, and it can be performed at any age. With this allergological method, it is possible to establish sensitivity to inhalant, nutritional allergens and additives and preservatives. The test is safe, and serious allergic reactions in severe hypersensitivity are very rare.

FeNo test
The FeNO test is a lung function test that measures the level of nitric oxide in exhaled air. We use this test as an aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of allergic asthma. In the Salvea Clinic, as part of the pediatric allergy clinic, the FeNO test is used as a standard in the diagnosis of allergic asthma.
Spirometry
Spirometry is a painless and simple diagnostic test to check lung function, which measures lung capacity and the speed of air flow through the airways. As part of the allergy treatment, spirometry is performed in order to determine or reject the suspicion of allergic asthma.
The examination itself in our clinic takes approximately 10 minutes. It is performed in such a way that the child inhales and exhales through a plastic mouthpiece according to the instructions. Spirometry is performed in children from the age of 5 and above.

Bronchodilatortest
In the allergology clinic, the test is performed if there is a history of broncho-obstruction or if there are some other risk factors. This test involves performing spirometry before and after inhalation of a fast-acting bronchodilator, usually salbutamol. The results of the first and second tests are compared and serve the purpose of diagnosing asthma.
